Ames Public Library would like to renovate and is asking voters in Ames, Iowa for an $18 million bond for the project.
Residents will vote tomorrow on a referendum that would allow the library to expand its square footage by 62%, comply with ADA, become LEED certified, keep up with the increased number of visitors, and make the floor space much easier to manage and supervise.
The referendum would need at least 60% of the votes to be in favor to pass. This will be incredibly challenging to achieve in the current economic climate. If it does pass, this will be very exciting news for all libraries looking to do capital campaigns for improvements.
