Bloomberg proposes huge cuts to New York Public Library

May 6, 2011

Mayor Bloomberg today proposed almost $37 million in budget cuts to The New York Public Library.  This would amount to the largest budget cut in the library’s history.

NYPL President Paul LeClerc responded with a public statement on the proposed cuts arguing that library services would have to be severely reduced if the cuts are enacted.

The NYPL is the largest public library in the United States.  If these proposed cuts get enacted it would be a sign of really bad things to come for local libraries across the country.
