Chicago librarians and residents protest budget cuts

November 1, 2011

Mayor Rahm Emanuel got a haunting message delivered to his office this Halloween.  Chicago librarians and residents delivered petitions with 4000 signatures protesting the $11 million in proposed budget cuts to Chicago libraries.

The protesters were most likely encouraged by the success of anti-cut movements in California and New York that saved funding for their libraries.  It will be interesting to see if Chicago is able to be spared from proposed library cuts.
