Penguin restores ebook lending at public libraries
Penguin issued a statement today saying that they had restored their ebooks to libraries earlier this morning. They specifically pointed out that their titles can be checked out in the Kindle format. New releases from Penguin will still not be available at libraries. [Read more…]
Major publisher Penguin pulls ebooks from libraries
Penguin Group USA has stopped allowing libraries to lend out ebooks of their new titles according to an article at TheDigitalShift.
According to the article, Penguin stated that the reason for pulling the ebooks was due to “concerns about the security of our digital editions”. They did not state specifically what security concerns they had. [Read more…]
Salt Lake City Public Library says ebooks cost more
The Salt Lake City Public Library system offers over 5,200 ebooks to its members. The digital collection is incredibly popular and appears to be growing in popularity each day.

New York Public Library has 75,000 ebooks
The New York Public Library is the largest public library in the United States with over 6 million items in its physical collections. Did you know they also offer the largest digital collection in the country with over 75,000 copies and more than 35,000 titles available for borrowing? It’s especially impressive since Amazon has a competing program that allows you to borrow an ebook directly from Amazon.com without having to go to a library. The list of borrowable Kindle Owners’ Lending Library ebooks only shows about 5,000 titles that you can download directly from Amazon to your Kindle.
