Barnes & Noble reported record Nook sales today with unit sales up 70 percent over the same period last year. Wisconsin public libraries combine budgets for ebooks
385 library branches in 17 library systems in Wisconsin have decided to combine their ebook budgets.
The move makes a lot of sense. Location is meaningless in the digital world and every librarian knows that the bigger and better the collection is, the happier the patrons are. This will allow all of the public libraries in Wisconsin to offer their patrons a larger digital collection of ebooks than they would be able to offer on their own. [Read more…]
Publishers’ business model for lending ebooks at libraries
Amazon has just created the business model that book publishers should use with libraries for lending their ebooks.
Amazon has completely changed the ebook lending game with their KDP Select program that they launched yesterday. The plan is to put all their Kindle Direct Publishing ebooks into their Kindle Owners’ Lending Library and then pay authors based on the number of times their ebook was borrowed.
