How to find an obituary in Nevada
For a recent death, start with the funeral home's website and the obituary pages of the Las Vegas Review-Journal, the Nevada Appeal or your local paper. For an older obituary, the Las Vegas-Clark County Library District has the Review-Journal from 1929 to 2018, Washoe County Library has Reno papers from 1876, and the Nevada State Library and Archives holds newspaper collections for the whole state.
What to have ready
- Full name, including a maiden name
- Approximate date and place of death (city and county)
- Age at death or birth year
- Names of close relatives (spouse, children, parents)
Tip: Knowing the county narrows the search the most. The Nevada State Library notes that birth and death records are held in the counties where the events took place.

- Lookup turnaround: not stated by the sources we checked.
Tips
- For Las Vegas, use the Library District's Review-Journal archive before paging through microfilm.
- For Reno, Washoe County Library's ProQuest access covers both the Evening Gazette and the Gazette-Journal. Note the gap between September 1983 and September 1984.
- If the person moved to Nevada from another state, check the hometown paper there too.
